Bon Jovi Concert

I went to the Bon Jovi concert at ACC on Monday. I almost had to take Greyhound there as my mom took my car from me last week, but she was too busy on Sunday to drive me back to Waterloo, and eventually let me take the car to Waterloo.

The concert was supposed to start at 7:30pm, but like any other concerts, it didn't. Some bold (I mean shaved off) white dude was on the stage singing before the actual concert started. I think it was this guy Chris Daughtry.

The concert started with the new album Lost Highway, and then went onto those old famous songs by Bon Jovi. Here is the list of songs on the concert.

LOST HIGHWAY
BAD NAME
WILD IN THE STREETS
CAPT. CRASH
I GET A RUSH
SLEEP w/ Jumpin' Jack Flash
SUMMERTIME
I GOT THE GIRL
BLAZE OF GLORY w/ Daughtry - Knockin' On Heaven's Door intro
WHOLE LOT OF LEAVIN'
BORN TO BE MY BABY
WE GOT IT GOIN' ON
IT'S MY LIFE
BAD MEDICINE w/ Shout
THESE DAYS - RICHIE VOX
(YOU WANT TO) MAKE A MEMORY
I'LL BE THERE FOR YOU

Mathematical Finance

The University of Waterloo is about to launch their new program Mathematical Finance (MFin hereafter) offered jointly by the Department of Actuarial Science and Statistics and of Pure Mathematics this coming September. MFin is not completely new, as it is mostly based on Pure Mathematics with Finance Option (PMFin hereafter). The PMFin program seems less focused on the finance side as many finance-related courses are optional for the program. However, most 300- or 400- finance related courses (i.e. ACTSC445 - Asset-Liability Management, ACTSC/STAT446 - Mathematical Models in Finance, ACTSC371/372 - Corporate Finance 1,2) have become mandatory for MFin. Also, there have been some antirequisite conflicts in PMFin, and one of several examples is ACTSC231 which is one of courses in the "One of" list and is an antirequisite of ECON371 that is mandatory for the program.

Math students at the University of Waterloo normally cannot have 3 or more designations on their transcript (at most 2 designations). PMFin is considered as two areas of study, so PMFin students cannot have a minor. However, MFin is considered as only one area of study, so students in MFin will be able to double major or have a minor along with their MFin degree.

By the way, when I contacted Prof. David McKinnon by e-mail a few weeks ago, he said the following:

"Mathematical Finance is considered one area of study, so you could get a minor designated on your diploma as well, and even a third areaof study (like another minor) designated on your transcript."

Either way, MFin seems to be a better choice over PMFin (PMFin will not even be available once MFin is in effect in September 2008) for those seeking for a finance program.

Town of "Middle-of-nowhere" Richmond Hill

It is not that I haven't been to Richmond Hill before, but I certainly haven't at 2am. As I always have to keep it secret as to why I even go there in the first place, making a trip there at 2am certainly was another level of a risky adventure. According to the odometer, it is a 63.2km trip, precisely. Well, I do not know how precise it is, but let us just say it is.

If you ever wonder where Richmond Hill is freaking located, I have kindly searched on Google Maps and got the link for you. I do not really mind disclosing where the hell I am living, but do mind disclosing where my exact destination was, so I just searched for Richmond Hill - that is why it says 56.7km as opposed to what my odometer indicates.

Mississauga - Richmond Hill

It was a fun trip. It was all good until I realized I had to pay for gas by debit, and I had a feeling it is going to cause a trouble (if not trouble, then an awkward situation) in a near future since my mom checks my monthly bank statement. She thinks monthly bank statements are not personal at all, whereas in fact they so are. Anyhow, I got back home, and unlocked the house door, and tried to sneak in. As I was sneaking in, I freaked out. "Holy fucking shit!" Someone was standing in the kitchen, looking at me and asking "where have you been?" I seriously thought it was my mom, but it was the guy living in my house. He is my mom's sister's son's son, so he is my nephew. He calls me uncle, and it feels so weird. Anyhow, thank god my mom was still sleeping. If I ever can, I would do make a night trip there again and again though.
